Monterey Bay Sirens Remain Unbeaten with Dominant Victory Over Oakland Soul FC
The Monterey Bay Sirens continued their impressive inaugural USL-W League campaign Saturday afternoon, defeating Oakland Soul FC in commanding fashion before a lively crowd at Cardinale Stadium for Monterey’s first Women to Men’s double header.
The match, presented by Signs by Van and Old Growth Lumber, featured an energetic atmosphere from kickoff to final whistle. Fans were treated to a halftime performance by the Seaside High School Drumline, while the In-Shape Fitness Flex Cam captured memorable moments from around the stadium throughout the game.
The Sirens’ starting lineup featured goalkeeper Malaspina (#0), Hoang (#2), Hernandez (#6), Uribe (#7), Yolinsky (#9), Castleberry (#11), Truitt (#18), McCabe (#20), Holladay (#25), McManus (#31), and Koss (#37).
Monterey Bay’s attack was sharp from the opening whistle as the Sirens controlled play against a talented Oakland Soul side. Amelia McManus (#31) opened the scoring in the first half, giving the home team an early advantage. Just before halftime, Emma Yolinsky (#9) doubled the lead with a well-timed finish to send the Sirens into the break with momentum firmly on their side. Gianna Koss (#37) added the final goal of the afternoon to secure the victory and cap a dominant team performance.
With a draw in their home opener, a road victory over Marin FC on May 17, and Sunday’s win over Oakland Soul FC, Monterey Bay remains unbeaten in the USL-W League NorCal Division play.
“Oakland is a very talented team, so to come out and not only earn the result but control large stretches of the match speaks volumes about the character and quality of this group,” said Monterey Bay Sirens Head Coach Laura VanWart. “Every player on this roster brings something special, and we’re seeing that collective strength come together each week. The team continues to grow in confidence, and we’re excited about where this group can go.”
The Sirens also celebrated a significant milestone for one of their players this week as Camryn Penn, who competes collegiately at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, received a call-up to the Philippines Women’s National Team.
Fans arrived early to enjoy a full day of sports, food, and entertainment, with a variety of local food and beverage vendors serving attendees throughout the afternoon and evening. Following the match, supporters gathered in the front plaza to meet Sirens players, collect autographs, and celebrate the victory while local band Sean and The Skinwalkers kept the festivities going with a lively postgame performance on the lawn.
The Sirens return home on Saturday, June 6, for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff in a match sponsored by YMCA of the Central Coast. The evening will feature Youth Night activities, with family-friendly entertainment and special experiences designed for kids and soccer fans of all ages.
